Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs: FAQ

How does acupuncture work?

Our body’s have the natural ability to actually heal itself. Acupuncture activates the body’s own self-healing mechanism thru the points on these meridians, thereby promoting the smooth flow of qi and blood. By activating these points they help improve the functions of your organs and body tissues, therefore increasing circulation, reducing inflammation, regulating hormones, boosting your immune system and so much more.  If there are any blockages in these meridians, pain and “dis-ease” results.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture doesn’t really hurt, but every patient’s experience is unique. At the initial insert of a needle, you may feel a slight prick or you may not even feel the needle go in. Sometimes you may experience some tingling, heaviness or warmth and that usually dissipates within seconds. If any of the needles feel uncomfortable, please let the practitioner know and they will adjust accordingly.

What to expect during the first visit?

If you’re a new patient please arrive 10-15 minutes before your appointment to fill out paper work. Please allow 75-90 minutes of your first appointment as this visit includes a detailed intake of medical history and evaluation, what your main goal is, followed by an acupuncture treatment and additional modalities such as cupping if needed. Follow-up appointments are 45-60 minutes, which includes evaluation of patient’s progress and/or any other modalities necessary.
We recommend that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows us to access acupuncture points just above the knee, legs, above the elbow, and/or arms.

FAQs: Testimonials

I have been seeing Andrea for the past three months. My main concern for the visit was a frequent migraine. Usually I get 5-6 migraines per month, mostly during ovulation and period. Some of them are extremely painful -- nausea, vomiting etc.. I have seen my physician, OBGYN and Neurologist, but all I have got were pain medications and an advice to manage my stress level. This is when I decided to try out acupuncture.

My first visit to Andrea was amazing! Carefully listening to my detailed answers to all her questions, she made sure she had all the information about my symptoms, problems and overall health. I have been seeing her for the past three months; going for an acupuncture session 2-3 times a month and taking herbal medicines. I am happy to say now the frequency of my migraine has gone down to 1-2 times a month, and they are not as painful as they were before I started seeing Andrea. Eastern medicine is a slow process, because you won't see a quick result but it indeed treats the root cause of the problem instead of minimizing/covering the symptoms as medications often do.

I highly recommend Andrea as an acupuncturist! She is so kind and it's always pleasant to be around her. She truly cares about her patients' well-being.
